Changes to Senior Fares during 1970 and 1971

Effective January 1, 1970 a fare of 8 1-zone tickets for $1.00 was granted to senior citizens of Metropolitan Toronto who had reached the age of 65 and who were in receipt of a government income supplement.  On May 15, 1970 senior tickets were introduced for travel through zones 1 and 2 at a rate of 10 combination tickets for $2.00.  Discount applicable to tickets only, cash fares are still at adult level.

On January 1, 1971, the senior's discount fare was extended to all residents of Toronto who reached the age of 65.  Tickets are 8 for $1.00 for either single zone or combination (zone 1 + zone 2) ticket.

Effective March 6, 2005 Saturday Day Pass can be used 2 adults alone, or with up to 4 Children/Youths (19 years of age or under) or 1 adult alone, or with up to 5 Children/Youths from the start of service until 5:30 a.m. the next morning.

11: Effective September 1, 2005, a transferable weekly pass was introduced for adults, seniors and students.  The adult pass requires no photo ID, while the senior/student one requires appropriate photo ID. The pass is sold at TTC Collector booths only from the Thursday prior to week of use until Tuesday of the valid week.  The pass is valid any one week from start of service on Monday to end of service Sunday.
12: Effective April 1, 2006, the Day Pass can be used from the start of service on weekdays rather than from 9:30 a.m.
13 New style bimetallic tokens were introduced on November 26, 2006.  Old style tokens remain useable until January 31, 2007. Old tokens could be exchanged for new tokens until April 30, 2007.
14 Adult tickets were eliminated as of September 29, 2008.  The following is the timeline for their elimination: June 29 - last day adult tickets were sold at TTC Authorized Ticket Agents; September 6 - last day adult tickets were sold at TTC Collector Booths; September 15 - Adult ticket exchange for tokens began; September 28 - last day adult tickets are accepted as valid fare; October 31 - last day for adult ticket exchange.
15 To prevent token hoarding, token sales were limited to 10 per person on November 6, 2009 and to 5 per person on November 13, 2009.  All bulk token sales were stopped on November 22, 2009 when temporary tickets were introduced.  These tickets will be on sale until January 2, 2010 are only valid until January 31, 2010 and require an additional 25 cents with each ticket after January 3, 2010.  The temporary tickets are not refundable or exchangeable.  Token will be available for sale on January 3, 2010.

4: In June 2003, the VIP Green Pass pilot program allowing organizations to purchase discounted adult Metropasses based on a minimum monthly purchase of 50 Metropasses for a period of at least one year was created on a trial basis. The pilot offers participants three price discounts (10%, 11% and 12%) based on the number of passes purchased per month (50 to 249, 250 to 499 and 500+).

A recognized Post-Secondary institution complies with the Post-Secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000. The recognized institutions under the Act within the City of Toronto are Canada Christian College and School of Graduate Theological Studies, Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Centennial College, George Brown College, Humber College, Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies, Institute for Christian Studies, Maimonides Schools for Jewish Studies, Masters College and Seminary (formerly Eastern Pentecostal Bible College), Michener Institute, Niagara University, OCAD University, RCC Institute of Technology, Ryerson University, Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, Talpiot College, The Oratory of St. Philip Neri, Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College, Tyndale University College and Theological Seminary (formerly Ontario Bible College), University of Toronto and York University.  The pass can be used only with a Post-Secondary TTC Student Photo ID.
